Abstract
  • The results of an experimental activity about renewable hybrid systems are presented in this work. The authors have investigated the utilization of two renewable sources, such as PV and wind energy, collecting and analyzing operating data in a stationary application (a mobile house) in order to optimize their management. Because simulations are often not sufficient to reproduce the real operating conditions, a series of measurements and tests has been performed on a system equipped with commercial devices (PV field, wind turbine, storage system, charge regulators, stand-alone inverter) and based on the real energy demand. An analysis has been performed to evaluate whether the energy supplied by the two renewable sources is adequate, insufficient or in excess compared to the mean and peak load requests. Being the storage system one of the most expensive and critical part of the system, a particular emphasis has been addressed to its performances and to its sizing. Furthermore, one of the key issues of the study is to evaluate whether the continuous variability of the wind and PV sources influences the electrical power produced and its quality, aiming to connect those houses to a local mini-grid or to the national grid. The paper is organized as follows: the performance parameters of the system are given first, the automatic measurement system set-up is presented and the experimental analysis then explained; finally, the results obtained are discussed. It needs to be stressed out that the results and conclusions are valid just if referred to the analysed site. In fact, the close dependence of the energy consumption of the heat pump on the climatic conditions and their influence on the production of electricity make the geographic variable very significative and determinative for the performances of the whole system. However it is possible to assess the performance of the house in another location simply by knowing the related environmental conditions. (literal)
