  • Abstract: Two study sites in Rome participate to Euro-Hd net : one at the National Research Council ( Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies and Institute of Neurobiology and Molecular Medicine) and one at the Neurology Department of Università Cattolica del S. Cuore. The two sites cooperate to realize an outpatient clinic for HD patients started in 1989. Since 1994 the service has the characteristic of a multidisciplinary clinic. Neurologist, psychologist and nutritionist are available for consultation at the moment of the visit. Geneticist, physical therapist and psychiatrist are available for referral. The clinical evaluation includes: routine neurological examination twice a year (UHDRS-motor section); Shoulson scale; MMSE; patient and family psychological support; nutritionist counselling; body weight monitoring. This interdisciplinary cooperation provides a continuum in the management of physical, psychological and familial problems. The subjects afferent to the clinic are 220, from all Italian regions. Of these 65% are subjects affected by HD, 20% are subjects at risk (pre-test clinical evaluations),15 are pre-symptomatic gene carriers (post-test follow-up). During the last 8 months (Sept 2004 - April 2005) we have performed for the Euro-HD project 70 clinical examinations involving 38 patients: 36 symptomatic patients; 2 presymptomatic gene carriers.
