- Rising competitive pressures in terms of cost, quality and speed, have led auto-makers and suppliers to re-evaluate their corporate structures. The traditionally narrow focus on the internal value creation process has shifted toward the optimisation of the entire supply chain, requiring a better management of relationships, information and materials flows. This means focussing on the integration process inside and outside the company. The present contribution aims at testing a methodological framework for the analysis of a given supply chain according to a SCM approach. More precisely, our attention is focussed on the Renault automotive supply chain and on the contribution of Logistics Service Providers (LSPs), mainly Le Havre port operators, in the supply chain value creation. Our assumption is that the higher the integration and the communication between the actors the higher the value for the end customer. The field work, primarily semi-structured interviews to Renault, to the main logistics and port operators and finally to the Le Havre Port Authority, was crucial to gather the needed information.
