  • The present study examines the relation between the OH radical and some processes involved in the cylinder of the compression-ignition engine from the ignition up to the pollutant oxidation. The investigations were carried out in a transparent, direct injection, single cylinder engine, equipped with Common Rail (CR) diesel multi injection system. The OH evolution was analyzed both conventional and advanced combustion process. The advanced combustion like homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) based on five early injection for cycle and the low temperature combustion (LTC) based on one late injection around the top dead center were compared with three injection for cycle of conventional diesel engine. The simultaneous multi-wavelength flame emission, chemiluminescence, and absorption measurements in the ultra-violet (UV) range were carried out and shown a sufficient sensitivity to yield the OH emission intensity for the combustion processes investigated.
