  • ABSTRACT: Starting from considerations on the necessity to introduce technologies of Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) in near future to prevent global climate impacts, the results of a study on the capability of the Mediterranean Sea to sequestrate all the CO2 produced by the present and future power generation located near sea coasts are presented. The study considers deep ocean injection technology as a candidate methodology to store permanently the combustion originated carbon dioxide and suggests the launch of a large and integrated research project to confirm the complete viability of this methodology at least with reference to the Mediterranean basin. As a corollary is presented a technical idea to integrate the future carbon capture and transport infrastructures, in which a great amount of liquid or compressed CO2 will be handled, with regional HVAC service systems beneficiating of the availability of this fluid.
