- An innovative technique for the diagnosis of the degree of deterioration of frescos surface was developed at the Institute of Acoustics O. M.
Corbino of C.N.R. and a suitable device was implemented. The ACoustic Energy Absorption Diagnostic Device ACEADD is based on the relative measurement of the acoustic energy absorption coefficient and provides maps of the frescoes surface indicating the presence of detached areas. For the intrinsic characteristics of the methodology, both absorption maps and surface roughness maps are simultaneously obtained, thus giving the possibility of performing a large number of analyses.
