- Abstract
- During autumn 2001 some MT soundings, in a remote-reference mode, were carried out on the Mt. Etna volcano. Data were collected with 3 Metronix acquisition systems, one unit was located on the remote site in Calabria and
the others on the Mt. Etna volcano along a W-E profile centred at Rifugio Sapienza. The obtained electrical resistivity section shows a conductive zone between 0 to 4000 m b.s.l. The lowest resistivity values, of the order of 1 ?m, has been detected in the western part of the section.
The conductor is interpreted as being due to magmatic intrusion at shallow depth. This intrusion was probably a remnant of the previous eruption that took place few months before the fieldwork, which did not emptied the magma stored at shallow level. This hypothesis would be also testified by the strong eruption started
one year after the MT survey. (literal)
