- Abstract
- The known host range of potato cyst nematodes (PCN) (Globodera pallida and G. rostochiensis) includes mainly Solanum species and a few species of Datura, Hyoscyamus, Lycopersicon, Physalis, Physoclaina, Salpiglossis, and Saracha, all in the Solanaceae family. The unreported results of a host study conducted in Chile using a local population of Globodera rostochiensis pathotype Ro1 indicate that Datura ferox, Nicotiana acuminata, Solanum ligustrinum and S. pinnatum allowed nematode infection and reproduction. Oca (Oxalis tuberosa) was not infected by potato cyst nematodes in field and greenhouse studies conducted in Bolivia and Peru. These findings conflict with those of a previous report of Globodera populations infecting oca. An updated list of potential PCN hosts based on the literature and on the current study is included in this paper. (literal)
