- Abstract
- Some polyester and polycarbonate-based waterborne polyurethanes (WPU) were characterised by means of several techniques, to correlate the morphology with their structures and properties. The morphological analysis carried out by transmission electron microscopy on thin sections showed that the selected polyurethanes, after purification, exhibit a nanostructures phase separation between hard and soft domains. The presence of hydrogen bonding and the hard/soft ratio were evaluated by FT IR and NMR spectroscopy. Both the thermal and the dynamic mechanical analysis allowed the polymers microstructure to be correlated with the polymer properties; two glass transition temperatures were determined, corresponding to the hard and soft domains respectively.
