- Abstract
- Bilateral Project between MATEIS UMR CNRS Lyon, France and ISTEC CNR Faenza, Italy
Rare Earth doped ceramics constitute a class of very interesting laser materials (transparent Nd: or Yb:YAG), light converters in LEDs (Ce:YAG) and scintillators for medical imaging.
Improving their performances for these applications requires optimizing the sintering conditions to achieve adequate microstructures.
Results should concern the influence of the sintering conditions on the grain-boundary structure (cleanness, segregation effects) and the grain chemistry (homogeneity of the dopant distribution, impurity concentration). According to our previous common study on Yb-doped YAG ceramics, thermal effects during optional annealing will also be studied.
We also intend to get new results on new systems, such as co-doped Er-Yb YAG ceramics. The choice of Er-based materials is motivated by their interest for eye safe lasers. Temptaive Electron Energy-Loss Spectroscopy (EELS) in TEM analysed may also be performed to investigate the va-lence of the Er ions in the YAG host. (literal)
