Abstract
  • A two-dimensional fully nonlinear wave tank, solved numerically by BEM, is applied to green water and bottom slamming on a restrained VLFS with shallow draft. A local analytical solution is introduced to cope with small angles between impacting free surface and bottom. Rapid turning of high curvature free surface around the front edge of the bottom during run-down phase requires special attention. Previous experiments have shown the presence of air cushions which is numerically confirmed and implies scaling problems of experimental slamming pressures. Predictions of volume of green water and extent of bottom emergence show fair agreement with experiments. Hydroelastic beam theory is used to predict local slamming induced stresses. The effect of body motions is briefly discussed. (literal)
