- Abstract
- The paper surveys the studies on fluidized bed conversion of biomass fuels carried out in the last years by the research group operating in Naples in the field of fluidized bed combustion and gasification of solid fuels and wastes which embodies staff of the Istituto di Ricerche sulla Combustione of CNR and of the Dipartimento di Ingegneria Chimica of the University of Naples \"Federico II\".
The most significant experimental and theoretical results obtained on the fluidized bed combustion of a biomass fuel are reported. Discussion of the results is the starting point to outline a general framework for the conversion of a high-volatile fuel in a fluidized bed. The key aspects for the efficient conversion of biomass fuels, namely the comminution phenomena of char, the fate of the volatile matter and the conversion history of generated fines with the related fate of ash components, are discussed in detail.
