- Abstract
- Combustion of a biomass, namely Robinia Pseudoacacia, has been investigated in a bench scale fluidized bed combustor operated batchwise. Similarly to other high-volatile fuels, Robinia particles showed a great propensity to fines generation by comminution. The combined use of experiments directed to evaluate rates of carbon fines elutriation and of a new technique based on the measurement of the CO/CO2 ratio in the flue gases showed that the conversion pathway which goes through fine char particles generation by attrition, followed by their post-combustion is an important route to the overall fixed carbon conversion.
