  • The study of the thermophysical properties of industrial alloys in the liquid phase is of increasing importance in the modeling of different technological processes such as casting, solidification, welding, and surface treatments. In this work the results obtained for the surface tension and the density of the three different Ni-based superalloys, CMSX-4®, RENE 90®, and RENE N5® are presented. The measurements have been carried out in the temperature ranges 1650-1850 K, 1638-1750 K, and 1638-1780 K, respectively. In order to decrease the O2 content in the surrounding atmosphere, all the tests have been performed under reducing Ar and Ar-5%H2gas flux. The variation of the composition and the microstructure of the alloys have been analyzed by SEM/EDS, before and after each experiment. The influence of alloy components on the measured property has been discussed in view of the Al-Ni system. (literal)
