- Abstract
- The paper describes a new geometric algorithm to offset CAD objects, described as surfaces tessellated with triangular facets, transforming the original geometry in a new smoothed offset model. Different approaches to cope with convex and concave geometries and to prevent overlapping cases are suggested and investigated. Furthermore, an STL-file preprocess algorithm is proposed in order to obtain an errors-free final surface modifying starting tessellated model. The developed algorithm has been named Offset Weighted by Angle (OWA). Different test cases are reported and commented. (literal)
