- Presentazione orale ABSTRACT: The determination of the wind direction from SAR images is a crucial step to extract the wind field from them. In many applications, the wind direction is derived from atmospheric models and imposed to the SAR scene. This is a wrong procedure, since the wind speed depends on the wind direction.
A method based on the two-dimensional wavelet transform has been developed, able to detect and extract the backscatter signatures related to the wind. Having elongated shapes, these structures indicate the wind direction with 180 degree of ambiguity.
The method has been applied to Envisat ASAR Wide Swath images at VV polarization. Its potentialities will be illustrated through examples. (literal)
