- As a consequence, satellite products for these systems were just adapted from global products, rather than specifically produced for the coastal environment and applications. While in ECOOP the WP2.3 should provide specific satellite-in situ coastal products. These products will be based on results of WP3 R&D, such as improved algorithms, in situ and R/S data merging. Therefore this report analyzes also the results and planning of WP3. Then it proposes a strategy to design the integrated ECOOP satellite data observing system in order to ensure the RT and NRT satellite data products for data assimilation during the TOP phase of the project. - One of the key components of the ECOOP project is contained in WP2: \"Integration of observing networks\". The aim of this work package is to integrate existing marine observation systems, harmonise the flow of observational data and coordinate access to Earth Observation (EO) products in order to take full advantage of existing national and European resources. In particular, WP2.3 aims to the implementation of the production, quality control, transmission and delivery modes to ensure the appropriate and maximum real time satellite data products for data assimilation during the test operational phase (TOP) of the integrated ECOOP system. One of the first step of WP2.3 is the analysis of the actual regional satellite observing systems. In this regard, this report reviews and documents, data acquisition, product types and the data delivery systems of the five operational oceanography regions within Europe. These regions are NOOS (North West Shelf Operational Oceanographic System), BOOS (Baltic Operational Oceanographic System), IBI-ROOS (Iberian Biscay Ireland Regional Operational Oceanographic System), MOON (Mediterranean Operational Oceanography Network) and the Black Sea GOOS (Black Sea Global Ocean Observing System). It is important to underline that at present these satellite monitoring systems are essentially basin-scale observational systems extended to coastal areas. (literal)
