Abstract
  • Available International Standards dealing with operators protective structures require manufacturers to satisfy requests on material behaviour (e.g.ISO 3471, 3449, 10262 and 12117). Among the available options, in view of the more and more stringent constraints on pollution, contaminants production, recyclability and renewable resources, plastic materials provide a significant opportunity which is worth being exploited also on protective structures. The Technical Specification is aimed at describing a series of tests intended to be applied to polymeric materials used in manufacturing falling object protective structures applied to Earth Moving Machinery. The intention is to ensure, with reasonable confidence, that a material having a satisfactory behaviour at ambient temperature will maintain its performance also at low and high temperature, removing the need to perform a complete test. This series of test is not intended to replace the relevant standard for testing protective structures, but rather to complement its requirements in terms of material qualification. (literal)
  • This Technical Specification describes testing procedures for non metallic materials used in falling-object protective structures (FOPS) intended for use on ride-on earth moving machines as defined in ISO 6165, in order to qualify that they provide adequate resistance in a range of temperature - high to low point - and that the results of tests carried out at ambient temperature can be used also to assess the behaviour at temperature as high as 65°C and as low as -30°C. Specimens may be moulded directly, cut from sheets or taken from finished products. The impact behaviour of finished products cannot be predicted directly from this test, but specimens may be taken from finished products for test by these methods. Test data developed by these methods should not be used for design calculations, but to obtain information on the typical behaviour of the material at different temperatures. Informative Annex B is applicable if a force-deflection or force-time diagram, recorded at nominally constant striker velocity, is necessary for detailed characterization of the impact behaviour.
