Abstract
  • The task of this work, is to produce the beam parameters as a function of the steering angle, in a form suitable for input to the beam tracing codes. The chosen option of RS laucher in this case is the so-called Dogleg-option. In this work: - The procedure is given to produce beam parameters for beam tracing input in the latest configuration of the dogleg option for the ITER ECRH Remote Steering Upper Launcher, as designed and developed by project team. - Analysis is performed taking into account the correct dependence of the beam parameters on the steering angle, which is responsible of the final output beam characteristics in terms of resulting poloidal and toroidal angles (?, ?), and in terms of beam widths and orientation of the resulting astigmatic beam with respect to the tokamak reference system. - Only simple astigmatic beam are considered in this first order approximation, the general astigmatic beams theory not being the goal of this task. - First order approximation thus is a useful and fast tool for a preliminary study of design performances, even if it doesn't give a complete and exhaustive description of the resulting beams. For the evaluation a detailed model with a complete geometrical description of the optics layout of the RS launcher has been implemented in Mathematica® code. As a result of the analysis, beams are found strongly astigmatic and elongated in a direction close to the poloidal one. More precisely beam spot axes are found to be oriented at angle ? with respect to a reference horizontal plane whose value depends on the input steering angle (-22.8°
