  • The scope of the paper is to give an incremental contribution in the direction of understanding the effect of the new policy of promoting academic direct involvement in the research results valorisation. We used questionnaires and interviews within a number of selected Italian case studies, partly following the guidelines of the NETVAL surveys, in so doing looking at TTO organization, the patent portfolio (applications, extensions, costs and their financing); number and returns from licensing, research contracts and spin offs and types of industrial clients of TTOs. We look also more in depth to the process of IP management, the relation between TTOs and clients (industrial firms) and between TTOs and public researchers. (literal)
