- Our objective is to compare the differential impact of privately funded and public funded industrial R&D expenditures. Since benefits from public R&D subsidies and private R&D investments are generally heterogeneous and have a skewed distribution across firms, these authors underline the necessity of taking into account the specific design and institutional characteristics of different incentive measures and the need of not using as satisfying parameter the average impact value between treated and non treated firms. We devoted particular care in measuring the level of subsidy by firm/year within a dataset built by firm/project observation. We aim to shed more light on the following research questions: Do different mixes and level of public financial resources provide differential results in terms of firm R&D additionality? What is the separate impact of own and publicly supported R&D on firms output in terms of patents? (literal)
