• The paper explores the relation between publishing and patenting at individual scientist level in one large multi-faculty university for the period 1999-2005 by means of descriptive and econometric methods. We study both the relation of patenting with publication and with citation counts per researcher per year at a pooled level and then distinguishing between academic owned and academic invented patents. We deal with four categories of patents: Academic owned (41,3%), Industry owned (45,5%), Individual owned (8,9%) and with mixed, public-private, ownership (4,2%).We find out that, behind the growth of publications after the event of patenting, there are different paths and types of impact for differently owned patents. These results confirm the usefulness of a research direction based on distinguishing patent practices within the scientists population. (literal)
