- Playing around TTF features, we designed switchable architectures involving flexible backbones. Various systems were synthesized around the biphenyl framework as a central pivot. In these multifunctional molecules, several subunits are grafted around the biphenyl skeleton such as redox-active TTF(SCH3)4 or binding sites as potential inputs, as well as photoactive moieties as potential outputs to read selected conformational changes in the molecular architecture. These flexible systems are of particular interest in the very fast evolving field of molecular logic gates. (literal)
