  • The paper deals in non-symmetrical convective drying, a configuration in which stresses induce a global change of the section shape of a wooden board with five insulated faces. In the present work, a new experimental device has been developed. It allows “twin” wooden boards to be tested simultaneously: - the first one is free of deformation and its curvature is collected vs. time, - the second one is constrained and the force required to keep it flat is collected vs. time. The tests have been carried out on radial specimens of spruce, 5 and 15 mm thick and at two different convective drying conditions: 45° and 65° C. The results are commented and compared with simulation runs. For this purpose, a new rigorous 1-D formulation has been developed and implemented in the 1-D version of TransPore. The objective of the comparison between numerical and experimental results is a better understanding of the coupled phenomena, the improvement of the cupping force measurement and the identification of some transfer and mechanical parameters.
