- Abstract
- There is a very close link between the evaluation of the environmental sustainability level and the Life Cycle Assessment analytical process. Actually, in such a historical moment in which the ability of the built environment to reduce its impact on the eco-system in terms of non-renewable resources consumption, emissions on the environment and production processes environmental loads, become a subject that cannot be delegated and require strategic interventions, both subjects aim at giving an appropriate answer with regard to the buildings tout-court interpreting them as systems characterized by deep interrelations and interdependence with the related environment. In this particular framework, the need to develop ad hoc methodologies to integrate II Level tolls for LCA analysis and their outputs, with III level tools fot the envitronmental sustainibility level evaluations, becomes strategic. While the former are most of all focused on the calculations of absolute or relative values to compare alternative solutions with respect to a reference configuration, the latter are mainly based on score systems in which the case study is compared with graduated evaluation system lying between a minimum and a maximum value according to the benchmarking principle.
This papare relates about the activity carried out by the autors in the structuring of ad hoc analytical methodologies focused on the integration of LCA analysis tools with III level evaluation systems for different building categories (residential buildings, tertiary for offices and shopping centres), in terms of:
- evaluation approach
- definition of benchmarks (or reference values) and their numerical evaluation;
- evaluation methodology for specific case studies.
The papaer also underlines the outputs obtained with the instrumental application of the elaborated methodology to some case syidues in terms of embodied energy and CO2 emissions, and, finally, it synthetsizes the main scenarios for future development. (literal)
