  • ABSTRACT: WC-Co based materials are widely used for cutting tools because of the good combination of hardness and toughness, that can be properly modulated by varying the percentage of additional carbides and binders. However, powders for the materials preparation are rare and, for this reason, research is addressed to recycle the worn materials. A new recycling process has been proposed by Wolframcarb; such method allows the almost complete recycling of WC-based materials with a low environmental impact. This paper deals with the analysis of microstructural and wear properties of WC-Cobased materials prepared in form of cutting tools via recycling and traditional methods. Evaluation of efficiency in turning with application to 100Cr6, AISI 304 and Inconel 718 was considered, using uncoated and CVD coated tools and varying the grade of hard metals (K20, P40 and M30 were employed, depending on the workpiece to be machined).
