- The design of a two-stroke compression ignition engine for aeronautical applications is
presented, which exploits the capabilities of a multi-objective optimization tool. The high
number of variables characterising the engine operation, as well as the need to fulfil pre-defined
requisites of power, efficiency and acoustic comfort, make the considered task particularly
complex. Through the application of optimization algorithms and techniques, some geometrical
parameters are redefined and a relevant improvement of both fuel consumption and noise
emission is obtained at a constant power output. (literal)
