- The purpose of the present work is to assess the reliability and the flexibility of the diesel
combustion simulations carried out with a parallel version of the KIVA3V code, using
detailed kinetics reaction models. Such flexibility is tested varying, in the experiments, both
some engine operating conditions and the compression ratio.
Calculated values are compared with experimental data collected on a single-cylinder diesel
engine fuelled with n-heptane pure, in order to allow the direct use of a reaction mechanism
for a single-component fuel. Furthermore, the adopted reaction scheme is a skeletal
mechanism validated in different experimental configurations, that is used in its original
version.
The comparison with measured data shows a good agreement and confirms the model
capability of capturing the fuel autoignition behavior in many engine working conditions. (literal)
