Abstract
  • The measurement technique for evaluating reverberation time from the pressure impulse response of a room has undergone a substantial improvement during the sixties thanks to the definitive work of Schroeder. The physical concept of reverberation time and the original Sabine's formula has been instead reviewed many time during the last century from different perspectives but only nowadays, due to the development of new sound intensimetric techniques based on p-v probes, it can be firmly established. The present paper presents some experimental results obtained in 1-D fields using a recently developed methodology based on pv hyper-probes, and on this basis, the link between Acoustic Quadraphony (i.e. the application of sound intensimetry to audio) and the Sabine's formula is definitely fixed on a solid metrological ground.
