- The role of Neogene tectonics and sedimentation in shaping the basin fill architecture along the sector of the Eastern Tyrrhenian margin is discussed on the base of seismic and well data. THe Terracina and Gaeta basins show a significant tectonic control on Quaternary sedimentation due to listric normal faults, which involve the Meso-Cenozoic tectonic units of the acoustic basement. The structural control is evident both at basin margins and in the basin interior, where it appears stronger in the early phases of basin filling, as shown by sinsedimentary tectonics affecting mainly the lower seismic sequences. The extensional tectonics is evidenced by systems of listric normal faults trending NE-SW and E-W and shaping mostly in the Terracina basin, half-graben structures downthrown seaward through normal faults and roughly N-S oriented.
