Abstract
  • On-line experiments concerning surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) were performed on organic light-emitting diodes based on poly(3-octylthiophene) (P3OT). A simultaneous reduction of the emitted power and an increase in the SERS signal were observed above an 8-V bias voltage. The enhancement of the Raman signal was partly thermal and partly electromagnetic in origin, with clear evidence of cathode roughening induced by current flow. Only a weak chemical interaction between the P3OT film and the cathode was detected. (literal)
