Abstract
  • The deliverable reports a review and evaluation of existing technologies and most relevant research results related to Factory ECOMATION project development areas, especially taking into account energy recovery and emissions abatement aspect, as required by the description of work. Technologies for enhanced data collection, Energy/Emissions management and control have also been tackled. Furthermore, integrated Decision Support Systems, capable of supporting company decision makers while identify and solve problems within a structured approach, so to perform environmental friendly decisions, have been considered. In details, the study started from the identification and analysis of the different processes integrated within the Woodworking and Iron and Steel sectors value chain. Thus, energy saving and environmental-friendly practices most commonly adopted in each part of the value chain have been discussed. State of the art equipment, relevant patents and research results related to new products, processes and technologies have been exploited. Afterwards, dedicated technologies and research results for emissions abatement, including Emission treatment technologies and enhanced control solutions for emissions processing technologies have been considered as a main innovation topic of the Factory ECOMATION project. Technologies and research results for integrated energy recovery and emissions abatement within Woodworking and Iron&Steel production have also been considered as a potential exploitation area. The state of the art analysis is then being oriented toward Hardware and Software technologies supporting overall process enhanced sensing, monitoring, control and management. Technologies and research results for sensing and monitoring have been evaluated with particular reference to Distributed Sensor Network and Wireless Sensor Network. Software platforms for interpreting, monitoring and control energy, emissions and resources flows have then been studied, including Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS), Predictive Emission Monitoring Systems (PEMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), Decision Support Systems (DSS), exploiting also most relevant available commercially available solutions. Such state of the art analysis will constitute a backbone integrated knowledge framework to be vertically extended within the Factory ECOMATION tasks specifically dedicated to the addressed industrial sectors, i.e. T5.1 - Current Iron&Steel process energy and emissions criticalities and T6.1- Current woodworking process energy and emissions criticalities. Furthermore, the identified results and open problems will support the definition of the project reference model within T2.4, while addressing the identified Functional Requirements (T2.1). (literal)
