  • This is the first contribution of a series devoted to the study of the so-called Fremond's full model for phase-transitions. The modeling issue concerns the possibility of taking into account the microscopic movements of particles within the overall thermo-mechanical evolution of a rigid phase-changing body. The derivation of consistent systems of conservation and constitutive equations leads often to highly nonlinear PDE problems that have been proved to be well-posed under various simplifying assumptions. Here, we focus on the situation of a sufficiently slow phase transformation. (literal)

Abstract
  • This paper deals with an initial and boundary value problem for a nonlinear evolution system which may be used to describe irreversible phase transition phenomena. The existence of a global solution is established via a regularization - a priori estimate passage to the limit procedure. Moreover, uniqueness is also discussed under additional regularity assumptions on data. (literal)
