Abstract
  • Etruscanning 3D is a European project, that uses 3D technology to study Etruscan tombs and visualise them for the wide public in temporary exhibitions and permanent setups in major museums. This paper shows an innovative way to create virtual reconstructions and recontextualisation of museum objects in close cooperation with content experts, details a new workflow to digitise and digitally restore objects that allows visualising them in real time interactive systems. Etruscanning 3D develops systems with natural interfaces and non-linear storytelling for use in museums and has performed indepth evaluation of the resulting installations when used by a typical museum audience. One of the sites studied and visualised in this project is the enigmatic Regolini-Galassi tomb in Cerveteri, Italy of which the objects are preserved in the Vatican Museums. (literal)
