Abstract

The photographs of Etruscan pottery collected for study purposes by Mario Del Chiaro form \"The Mario Del Chiaro Photographic Archive\"generously donated in 1989 to the Getty Research Institute of Los Angeles. Thanks to the Short Term Mobility grant awarded to me by the Italian National Research Council, in August 2013 I worked at the Getty Research Institute on \"The Mario Del Chiaro Photographic Archive\". The photographs - numbering more than 2,500, are almost all black and white. This documentation will be carefully analysed since, besides many photographs of Etruscan red-figure vases preserved in the major museums around the world and already published, there are also many photographs of vases in smaller museums (mostly American, but also German), or those submitted by auctioneers (mainly British and Swiss) to Prof. Del Chiaro for appraisal, which might still be unpublished. Some of them are of very great scientific interest and in the future will certainly be the subject of study and publication within my Institutional Research line on Artistic Etruscan Handicraft of the Hellenistic period.
