- Abstract
- The magnetization reversal mechanism of soft/hard Fe/FePt perpendicular exchange-coupled films with a quasi-continuous morphology was investigated as a function of the Fe layer thickness by combining vector magnetic measurements with MFM analysis and numerical simulations. The competition of interface exchange coupling and magnetostatic energy, which produces a gradual misalignment between soft and hard moments with increasing Fe thickness, strongly influences the magnetization reversal mechanism. The results reveal a complex magnetic behavior partially explained by a micromagnetic model recently developed by Asti and coworkers (Phys. Rev. B, 73, 094406, 2006). (literal)
