Abstract

• The hydrodynamic and structural models developed within the project have been coupled leading to a compound solution algorithm. The latter has been formulated both as a weak and as a strong coupling. In the following, the extensions of the hydrodynamic and structural solvers required to achieve a proper coupling are described first. These refer to: (a) the hydrodynamic model incorporating the occurrence of slamming phenomena and related loads and (b) the approach used within the structural model to describe the global and local deformations. Then the implementation of the coupling strategy between the hydrodynamic and structural models is described and its application in the case of weak coupling is discussed by means of an example.
