Abstract
  • We present an experimental test site for monitoring of heavy metals emissions, applied to the industrial area of S. Nicola di Melfi (PZ). A multi-parametric approach has been chosen to associate a set of different variables (meteoclimatic, geomorphologic, socioeconomic, and environmental) to each georeferenced sampling point. The data management is performed by means of aregional GIS. The monitoring procedure for heavy metals emissions can be divided in two phases: characterization of the background and implementationof the optimized integrated monitoring network which includes chemical-physical instrumentation and biological measurements. Particularly, analyzing the data from 1993 to 1996, an increase of concentration of Cd, Cr, Ni and Pb bioavailable fraction has been pointed out. Furthermore we show an example of impact maps in which we compare concentration maps obtained by field surveys and foreseen ground level concentration maps obtained by the transport model. (literal)
