- Abstract
- In this period, the systematic study on the combustion behavior of emulsions and parent fuels in the single droplet combustion chamber has been continued. Tests have been carried out in two experimental campains. In the first one, a matrix of nine fuels (eight pyrolysis oil (PO) based fuels and the diesel oil used to form emulsions) was studied. This campain has completed the tests initiated on the same group of fuels during the first year of the project. The investigated fuels were:
a) Four emulsions (prepared by CSGI) of PO in light oil;
b) Two PO parent oils (provided by VTT and Fortum)
c) The commercial diesel oil used to prepare the emulsions;
d) Two Forestera PO samples (provided by Fortum).
In this series of experiments, the main aim was to analyse the gaseous compounds formed during the combustion of PO and related fuels. One Forestera PO sample was also tested after 1 year of ageing to study the effect of a long storage on gaseous combustion emissions.
In the second experimental campaign, a matrix of eight fuels was tested:
a) Six emulsions (prepared by CSGI) of PO in light oil;
b) The PO parent oil (provided by Fortum);
c) The commercial diesel oil used to prepare the emulsions.
Aim of this series of tests was to investigate the influence of the structure of emulsions on their combustion behaviour.
In the reference period, the heating and ignition of fuel PO droplets by means CO2 laser radiation was also investigated. (literal)
