- Abstract
- Commissioning of the single cylinder optical engine with VVA emulation and analysis effect of heavy external cooled EGR on combustion. As foreseen, the optical engine was then prepared in order to simulate the EH-VVA system
performance. To this aim, the chosen solution concerned in a throttle valve in the exhaust duct able
to reduce the exhaust flow rate so allowing the simulation of internal EGR.
Before performing tests with internal EGR, preliminary tests were carried out on the optical single
cylinder CR DI engine at low load and speed conditions by varying the external cooled EGR rate up
to 36%. Three values of EGR rate were selected: 0%, 17% and 36%, as in the case of tests on
Ruggerini engine. In these conditions the analysis of the combustion was done through the twocolour
pyrometry technique. In-cylinder flame temperature maps and soot concentrations and
distributions were obtained for the different test cases. (literal)
