Abstract
  • Cp//3UX compounds (Cp EQUVLNT eta **5-C//5H//5; X EQUVLNT Me, Et, NEt//2, OMe) react in toluene solution at room temperature with various adducts BH//3 multiplied by (times) L (L EQUVLNT BH//3, tetrahydrofuran (THF), Me//2S) sufficiently labile to give Cp//3UBH//4. In the case of Cp//3UR (R EQUVLNT Me, Et), the reaction proceeds via the spectroscopically observable insertion products Cp//3UH//3BR (not isolable as pure compounds); this seems to justify the term 'insertion' for the initial step of the BH//3 uptake. Likewise, the recently reported dihaptoacyl complexes Cp//3UCOR react with BH//3 multiplied by (times) L in essentially the same way as their parent Cp//3UR systems: the facile CO abstraction which takes place at room temperature suggests that the reaction may proceed via Cp//3UR. In contrast, Cp//3UNEt//2 and Cp//3UOR are converted into Cp//3UBH//4 without any intermediate species being evident. (literal)
