- In the framework of an extensive study aimed at evaluating the wettability and the interfacial characteristics of different metal-ceramic systems, the behaviour of ZrB2 in contact with liquid Silver, Copper, and their alloys with Zr has been tested. ZrB2 has been selected for its particular mechanical and thermal properties such as its high melting point, high hardness, high electrical conductivity, excellent corrosion resistance against molten iron and slags, superb thermal shock resistance. These properties make it an excellent candidate for very high temperature applications as in combustion chambers, thermal protection shields for space vehicles and so on . Joining studies on this system are scarce and it is felt that a systematic approach to the problem is necessary. (literal)

- Abstract
- Sintered ZrB2 ceramics, pure and with 4wt% Ni as sintering aid, have been tested in contact with liquid Ag, Cu, Ag-Cu and Ag-Cu-Zr. Pure ZrB2 ceramics are wetted by Ag-Zr alloys, and ZrB2/Ni ceramics also by pure Cu. The wetting behaviour is briefly discussed in terms of existing wetting theories (literal)
