Abstract
  • Nowadays machine tools users ask for machines with more precision and productivity at the same time. To meet these needs, machining centers must reach high speed while maintaining a high level of accuracy. Unfortunately inertial forces due to high acceleration generate oscillations that are translated into geometrical errors in the machined parts. In this paper the effects of inertial deformation on the accuracy of a machine tool has been studied in order to evaluate the possibility of adopting a software compensation strategy. A detailed feasibility analysis has then been carried out studying all possible limitations to the application of such approach. Simulations prove the effectiveness of the developed technique on a five axis machining center. (literal)
