Its overexpression in Arabidopsis thaliana plants increases both biotic and abiotic stress tolerance (Vannini et al. 2006), with the accumulation of several metabolites essential in stress defence response. With the aim of enhancing the tolerance towards multiple stresses in a crop species, Lycopersicon esculentum Mill plants were transformed with Osmyb4 under a constitutive and an inducible promoters, and tested for their tolerance to cold and drought and for their resistance to tomato mosaic virus (ToMV). Transgenic plants did not show enhanced tolerance to cold, but only to drought, and appeared more resistant to ToMV than WT. Interestingly, they also showed an augmented content in lycopene and soluble solid content (SSC). The data obtained, besides indicating that the specificity and the degree of Osmyb4 ac (literal)
