  • ABSTRACT: The present document is the progress report on the activities carried out at the Institute of Science and Technology for Ceramics (ISTEC) and at the Department of Aerospace Engineering-University \"Federico II\" of Naples (DIAS) in the frame of the project IN-FLIGHT AEROTHERMODYNAMIC CHARACTERIZATION OF ULTRA HIGH TEMPERATURE CERAMICS(CCN2 ESA Contract 21029/08/NL/IA) The activities are developed in preparation of the in-flight experiments on-board the FOTON capsule during the next mission BION-M1 scheduled for May 2012.The activities described hereafter include the manufacturing of UHTC samples addressed to the realization of the UHTC holder, the manufacturing of UHTC samples for the set-up of the passive temperature sensors, preliminary designs of the UHTC holders, and ground experimental tests and BION aerothermodynamic analysis (literal)
