- The present patent application is related to a positioning system for endovascular devices based on ultrasound embedded probe and other measuring sensors integrated with an automatic control loop and needed algorithms and interfaces. The present finding could consist of an intravascular catheter supplied with an inflatable balloon with an automatic positioning system integrated with all needed ancillary sensors, neural networks, real-time tracking algorithms and human interactive interfaces. It can be utilized for the temporary occlusion of single blood vessels during specific surgical operations, mostly combined with the use of endoscopic and minimally invasive techniques in general. In particular, this catheter allows the automatic positioning of the balloon by monitoring in real time its position (performed by means of special embedded ultrasonic transducers) and by means of an external motorized system that, according to the data obtained from ultrasonic tracking and other related sensors, corrects in an iterative and automatic manner the position of the balloon and consequently of the catheter tip. An example of use of the present finding is observed in interventions, for repairing or replacing the mitral valve with minimally invasive surgery techniques, in which it is necessary to stop the blood flow towards the heart, in order to stop the heart beating with cardioplegia and allow the surgeon a better visibility during the intervention on the valve, performed endoscopically. The present device comprises multiple miniaturized ultrasonic probes opportunely mounted on the catheter (in proximity to the balloon or also inside it) and an algorithm for the processing, in real time, of the data obtained. All this is assembled in order to allow at every moment the accurate spatial localization of the balloon itself in relation to various anatomic reference points. Other sensors for monitoring other physiological parameters are moreover combined to get a better control toward the positioning system, which can also be supported by artificial intelligence systems (neural networks). The device includes besides a \"ball-screw\" linear actuator or the like for the automatic displacement of the balloon, according to the indications deriving from the ultrasonic and embedded sensors. This system guarantees good dynamic performances, silence, high stability, robustness and accuracy in positioning and quickness in performing the intervention. It can apply to all kinds of minimally invasive interventions making use of endovascular catheters or the like. (literal)
