  • In the recent years, the purification of organic solvents by the removal of small impurities such as amines, amides and metals formed during organic synthesis is a considerable problem which attracted the attention of the scientists. Imprinting technique [1], coupled with membrane technology [2], can help to solve this problem by preparing solvent resistant membranes with controlled specificity for targeted molecules in order to remove them from solvents of interest. In this work, molecularly imprinted membranes (MIMs) exhibiting molecular recognition properties in organic solvent were prepared using the primary aromatic amine 4,4’-methylendianiline (MDA) as targeted impurity. In this perspective, different functional monomers such as acrylic acid (AA), itaconic acid (IA) and methacrylic acid (MAA) were copolymerized with acrylonitrile (AN) by the water phase precipitation polymerization [3]. Due to its chemical structure MDA presents binding sites capable to interact via hydrogen bond with the carboxyl groups of the synthesized copolymers. (literal)
