- The synthesis and the characterisation of new dinuclear copper(II) complexes of general formula [(La?d)2Cu2(?-N?N)](X)2 (1?10) with either aliphatic diamine (N?N = piperazine, pip) or aromatic diimine (N?N = 4,4?-bipyridine, 4,4?-bipy) linker will be presented. The copper ancillary ligands L? are tridentate Schiff bases derived from the monocondensation of a substituted salicylaldehyde 5-G-salH (G = NO2, H, OMe) with ethylenediamine, en, or 1,3-propylenediamine, tn. The used counterions, X?, are mainly ClO4? and in few cases NO3?. The crystal structures of several compounds will be reported and discussed. The temperature dependences of the magnetic susceptibilities for all compounds have been
analysed; the matching of the crystal structures with the magnetic features, and the comparison with the parental mononuclear compounds [(La?d)Cu(py)](X) (A?D) provide a detailed understanding of the communication between the two metallic centres, and the influence of the ligand substituent G. EPR studies have been performed both on solid samples and in solution, revealing the dissociation in methanol. (literal)
