- To clarify the interrelationships beetween adiponectin and insulin resistance/obesity/type 2 diabetes, anche the regulation of adioponectin by feeding. Adiponectin gene expression in adipose tissue (AT)was not different in obese, obese with type 2 diabetes and in control individuals. Six hour after meal, plasma adiponectin decreased in obese type 2 diabetic patients while significantly increased in obese and control subjects. Gene expression decreased in obese diabetic patients while was unchanged in obese and control subjects. In conclusion type 2 diabetes is accoiated with lower postprandial plasma levels and AT gene expression of adiponectin, indipendently of degree of adiposity and insulin resistance, suggesting a deleterious regulation by feeding in diabetic patients.
