  • The purpose of this presentation is to show the current debate over whether democratization causes economic growth, or vice versa, analyzing, in particular, the role of technological innovation patterns within this main socio-economic relationship. The primary finding is that the democratization is a driving force for technological innovation with fruitful effects for the wellbeing and wealth of nations. In addition, as the empirical research on the determinants of economic growth neglected, until some years ago, the influence of religion practices, current socio-economic research has been analyzing the impact of religion on people´s economic attitude (consistent with pioneer work of Weber); in order to fill another gap, the presentation will also introduce if the religion may affect the innovation activities of countries.
